ELIS NOA – For Her

First up is the new single from Viennese band ELIS NOA, who have been working together since 2016. ‘For Her’ is concerned with the self-image of people who are trying to project an image that does not correlate with reality and merely represents an enchanting facade. The video was filmed as a ‘one shot’ which supports the linear development of the musical structure of the song.

Lunavela – Chequered Past

This isn’t a new release, but it just landed in our inbox, and the dreamy, Washed Out breezy summer feeling just blew us away. Well done, Lunavela, the perfect track to watch the world go by at an airport.

Talkboy – Mother

Leed’s band Talkboy have released their debut single ‘Mother’ – and it’s quite an impressive introduction to the scene from the 6-piece. Combining their playful indie rock with captivating melodies and layers of vocal harmonies, Talkboy shift between euphoric walls of noise and intimately sweet soundscapes. Let’s hope they keep up the good work!

Far Caspian – Let’s Go Outside

Another Leeds band now – quite a lot of decent music coming out of Yorkshire at the moment – with Far Caspian’s absolutely delightful ‘Let’s Go Outside’ and its infectiously dreamy feel to it, we’re just suckers for this kind of sound on Substance is Meaningless. Whilst Far Caspian have been based in Leeds since formation, frontman and guitarist Joel Johnston has only recently moved over to England from his native Ireland. This upheaval provides the basis of ‘Let’s Go Outside’ themes. “Although it’s a pretty upbeat instrumental, the lyrics touch on depression and feeling far from something you could call home,” he states, “The whole EP is loosely based on my experiences of moving to England and feeling a disconnect to living in a new city for the first time.”

BELAU – BREATH ft. SOPHIE LINDINGER

Hungarian electro-pop duo Belau have teamed up with one if Austria’s most-talented voices at the moment, Leyya’s Sophie Lindinger. The band first met Sophie in Texas and decided to see what a collab would look like, and ‘Breath’ is the end product. Listen to it below.

The Vryll Society – Light At The Edge Of The World

We’ve featured The Vryll Society before on SIM, and this is another reason to be excited about their debut album which is out on 10th of August.  Combining the influences of Tame Impala and Stereolab, the emerging quintet delve deeper into their eclectic palette of space rock, trip-hop and psychedelia with their charismatic pop-tinged number, reaffirming the themes and ideas likely to form the basis of their upcoming LP.

Mile Me Deaf – Dive Down

One of the most prolific musicians on the Austrian scene is Wolfgang Möstl. If he’s not making music with he’s many bands or collaborating, he’s behind the scenes producing and mixing. This time he’s back on the vocals with his band Mile Me Deaf for their latest single, ‘Dive Down’, which has a bit more synth/electro elements to previous work, but as you would expect from the band, it’s an excellent piece of work and something to look forward to ahead of the release of the double LP in the autumn.
