2015 is upon us. If you celebrated 2014 properly then you are probably still suffering from it, and that is the way it should be. New Year’s Resolutions have been made and probably already broken, so here is an easy one to keep – listen to more new music and support local bands! Speaking of local, here are the best songs to come out of the Alpine state in 2014 in our humble opinion (in no particular order). It was an impressive year for Austrian artists as they continued to prove that they can hold their own with some of the best bands in Europe and around the world.
BRUCH – TAKE ME HOME VIENNA
Possibly the most distinct voice in our list. In “Take me home Vienna”, Bruch uses his cigarette and treacle vocal chords to plead with his love to take him home. Get “My Name Should be Trouble” here.
GARISH – GANZ PARIS
Garish created an album of unprecedented beauty in the form of “Trumpf”. While the album has many wonderful songs, Ganz Paris is the stand-out track with its rustically provincial feeling and feel-good vibe.
THE NOISE TIGERS – ANOTHER TOWN (ANOTHER VERSION)
The Noise Tigers popped up out of nowhere in the middle of the year and I was instantly drawn to this track. Their dreamy electro pop is like candy floss for the ears while their darker, more post-punk infused side is a refreshing aftertaste which will linger.

ANKATHIE KOI – KATE, IT’S HUNTING SEASON
When she is not making great music with Fijuka, Ankathie Koi is making great music as a solo artist, “KATE, IT’S HUNTING SEASON” is the perfect proof with its 80’s infused melodies and addictive sound. Get the EP here.
MONSTERHEART – BUNNIES
Monsterheart shows her lighter side with the ridiculously catchy “Bunnies” taken from the equally good album “W”, a wild Jekyll and Hyde battle between her double personas of glam graveyard pop and gloomy temperament. Get the album here.
JA, PANIK – LIBERTATIA
Ja, Panik’s constant desire to mix German and English can at times be a little annoying, but there is no arguing with the fact that Libertatia is one of the albums of the year, and the title song is in a class of its own.
UMA – VANITY
“Vanity” is a dark piece of electro from the Austrian/German duo taken from their album “UMA”. Full of ambience and Portishead like sound, this is a song to come down to in beautiful melancholy. Get the album here.
